How to Completely Relax Your Mind and Body
Almost one in four people sleep with their smart phone near or in their bed these days, which means that a lot of us just don’t get solid sleep or time to reflect on our day. When you are in bed, it is the time to be able to relax both your mind and your body, yet most of us will go to bed with our phone, with the television on, or reading an electronic book.
The human body really does need the opportunity to relax and it is not just when you are sleeping that it needs to happen. In fact, it is truly beneficial to you if you can learn methods that will help you to relax your mind and your body while you are awake, so that you can relieve tension and anxiety and be better able to cope with the problems and issues that most of us have every day.
What Can You Do?
In order for your body to be healthy, you already know that you should pay attention to your nutrition and that means eliminating as many processed foods from your diet as possible and eating plenty of fruits, vegetables, and drinking plenty of water. You might not see the connection between the health of your body and relaxation, but it is extremely important. If you aren’t eating healthy, your body will be working too hard to ever relax and ease up.
In addition to eating better, you should also spend some time on physical activities. Most of us don’t exercise nearly as much as we should, and if you have a job that is sedentary, then it can be detrimental to your health. While it takes energy to exercise, you will sleep better at night, you will have less tension, and you will also find that you can deal with stress a lot better.
Many people find that a soothing yoga class (not a vigorous one!) is ideal for assisting in relaxation and you may learn techniques from your instructor that can help you to relax your mind and body at home. Although you might only get an hour or so of time for yourself in a yoga class, it can still benefit your well-being longer after you get home.
That being said, a yoga class, a massage, or any kind of experience where you are attempting to rest or relax cannot be done if you are drinking a lot of caffeine or if you are partaking in alcohol. In fact, alcohol might put you to sleep, but it won’t provide you with the restful sleep that your body needs. So, if you are interested in increasing your overall level of relaxation, then alcohol is not a good idea. You would be much better off with a cup of herbal tea or simply water.

If you have ever tried to “meditate”, by sitting quietly with your legs crossed, attempting to think about “nothing”, then you know how hard it can be. As soon as you give yourself the opportunity to relax, all you can do is think about other things. So, even though meditating can be extremely helpful (and it doesn’t always have to be done in a sitting position, either!), there are tricks that you can do to help yourself get better results.
For example, concentrating on your breathing and making sure that you are in a completely quiet location is important. Ideally, it should be dark so that you aren’t distracted by the things around you and the addition of a scented candle or some incense can enhance the experience. One thing that you absolutely don’t want to do is have your cell phone or any kind of electronic device near you when you are doing this or you will tempted to break your meditation.

Forcing your mind and body to relax isn’t something that you can do on the first try, but making some simple lifestyle changes and giving yourself the opportunity to try to relax, will benefit you. With practice, you will find that it is actually not that hard to calm your mind and relax your body so that you can get more out of life.
